The duo Martinez/Cho was founded in Buenos Aires in 2012, then moved to Europe and perfected in Zürich under the coaching of Prof. Christoph Berner and Prof. Werner Güra, where they received the distinction of Master Liedduo at the Zurich University of the Arts, Switzerland.

Recently, in July 2022, they were finalists at the “11th International Chamber Music Competition Franz Schubert and the Modern Age”, Graz, Austria, where they stood out and were praised for their originality.

As a duo they have received various awards:
1st prize in “Interpretation Competition Contemporary Music” at the Zurich University of the Arts, Zurich, Switzerland, 2022.
2nd prize in the 7th John Cage Interpretation Award Halberstadt, Germany, 2021.
2nd prize in “Interpretation Competition Contemporary Music” at the Zurich University of the Arts, Zurich, Switzerland, 2021.
2nd prize in the I. Lumen Artis Competition for Chamber Music in Voice and Piano, Buenos Aires, Argentina, 2012.

The duo has been selected to actively participate in Barbara Hannigan’s Master Class in January 2023, organised by Musikkollegium Winterthur and Zurich University of the Arts.

In recent years they have actively collaborated on various projects with composers such as Bernhard Lang, Alfons Karl Zwicker, Moritz Eggert, Isabel Mundry, Judith Weir, George Lewis and also with the Soprano Sarah Maria Sun. The concert in October 2022 at the Zeughaus Teufen, Switzerland, (“Dem heiligsten Stern über mir” by A.K. Zwicker) was recorded by SRF 2 Kultur and will be broadcast in February 2023. In November 2022 they made their debut at the Tonhalle Zurich with O.Messiaen’s Harawi Songs.

The Martinez/Cho duo creates and realises projects that unite audiovisual and acoustic experiences by combining classical and contemporary music, with the objective of bringing the song repertoire closer to the audience. An example of this was their first project “Elegías”, directed by Julián Garcés, which received much attention and was engaged by Liedrezital Zurich for the 2023 season.
